On December 1, 2015, Council Members Allen, Orange and Chairman Mendelson introduced the Made In DC Program Establishment Act of 2015. The Bill became an official DC Law (L21-0135) on July 1, 2016 establishing the MADE IN DC Program that supports and promotes WDC’s makers. The Program enables local businesses to identify and differentiate themselves, and to help consumers find locally-made products. What is a DC Maker? A Maker is a local creative entrepreneur who designs, produces, manufactures and or assembles products across a wide range of categories including Apparel and Accessories, Food and Beverage Products, Furniture, Print goods and more. Benefits of registering as a Made in DC business include being promoted across a variety of channels including the official website ThisIsMadeInDC.com and at #MadeInDC events; exclusive use of the Made In DC logo and brand collateral; listing in the Made In DC Member Director and exclusive selling opportunities at Made In DC hosted programming and events. Plus participants receive information about Department of Small and Local Business Development workshops, networking and resources. Made In DC Criteria:

  • Have primary office located within the District of Columbia
  • Possess a current and active DC business license
  • Certify that either the majority owners are District residents or 51% or more of your employees are District residents
  • There is no cost to enroll in the Made in DC program. Made in DC enrollment is valid for three (3) years.
